What a busy week! How did we miss National Cocktail Day??? If your looking for something easy to throw together that isn’t too sweet and still packs a punch try this beautiful French Martini! You know I love a bit of history so here it is! The “French Martini” was actually invented in the United States at a New York City bar. It was given the French name from one of its key ingredients called Chambord that has been produced in France since 1685. - [ ] 1 1/2 ounces Vodka - [ ] 1 ounce Chambord - [ ] 2 ounces Pineapple Juice In a cocktail shaker add ice and ingredients and shake vigorously to get that perfect silky foam (about 20 seconds). Using a strainer pour slowly into a martini glass letting the foam settle on top. Garnish with fresh raspberries, blackberries, or pineapple. Tip- You can carefully place raspberries on top of the foam and they will float ;) Although the original martini is made with gin, this one is vodka based and one of my personal favorites. Another snow day here in the north state!! Schools out early so here’s a little lesson about the history of the original Irish coffee! ⬇️ According to the Irish Whiskey Museum “During the 1940s, Foynes was one of Europe’s biggest airports. It was the main airport for Flying Boats and regularly received passengers from the U.S. including Hollywood stars and important political figures. A new restaurant was opened to cater to these guests. Joe Sheridan a young chef was in charge of the restaurant. As the weather in the West can be horrendous, Joe decided to create a drink that would warm his guests up and that drink is the famous Irish Coffee. The story goes that when an American passenger first drank it he asked “Is this Brazilian coffee?” in which Joe replied “No, that’s Irish coffee”. International success of the Irish coffee is credited to the travel writer Stanton Delaplane. After tasting the coffee, Stanton returned to the U.S. where he told his friend Jack Koeppler, the owner of Buena Vista about it. The duo tried to recreate the coffee with little success. Since they could not recreate it, Buena Vista offered Joe a job in the States in which he accepted”. The rest is history! With so many variations it’s hard to choose!
